Shawn Mistry, M.Ed., M.A., M.A. (he/they)

Doctoral Associate & EF Coach

Shawn is currently completing his doctorate in School and Clinical Child Psychology (SCCP) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Shawn has been a dedicated graduate student, having completed a Masters of Education and Masters of Arts in Developmental Psychology & Education, as well as a Masters of Arts in School and Clinical Child Psychology. Shawn’s current PhD research is in understanding the various relationships between emotional intelligence, self-concept, and ADHD symptomology in gender-diverse and 2SLGBTQIA+ emerging adults.

Shawn has clinical training from the Toronto District School Board, working with youth ages 7-17 providing comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for learning, attention, and mental health difficulties as well as delivered short-term cognitive behavioral therapy. Prior to working at Step Stone, Shawn worked in private practice for five years as a Lead Coordinator of Academic Intervention services, overseeing and providing academic remediation to youth ages 6-21 with learning disabilities and ADHD. Shawn recently completed a one-year therapy practicum at Step Stone Psychology and applied various modalities of intervention, including DBT-informed work, EFT, CBT, exposure, trauma-informed therapy & parts work, and play therapy. Shawn has experience working with clients as young as six years old to emerging adults in their late 20s. Shawn applies his knowledge from his research, his clinical courses/training, and diverse experiences from volunteering in community settings, such as refugee transition and immigration, working in crisis support, and creating 2SLGBTQIA+ safe spaces with community organizations, to his clinical care with his clients. Shawn also has experience in conducting psychological assessments for treatment planning and/or clarifying a previous diagnosis, as well as supporting students/young adults in acquiring accommodations for school or work. Shawn engages in client-centered care using a multicultural feminist perspective and roots his services in an anti-colonial and intersectional-based framework.

At Step Stone Psychology, Shawn works as a Doctoral Associate and co-lead of our Executive Functioning Coaching Service, where he supports clients to build stronger EF skills for school and life-work success.
