Doctoral Practicum Student
Sara Ahmed is a Doctoral Practicum Student at Step Stone Psychology, currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She is a Vanier Scholar and holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from TMU, where her research uses neuroimaging methods to examine women’s health equity during critical reproductive transitions.
Sara has clinical experience working with adults and emerging adults, providing diagnostic assessments and evidence-based treatment for trauma, depression, anxiety, and neurodiverse presentations. She primarily draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while also integrating Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Sara takes a client-centred approach, emphasizing cultural humility, collaboration, and tailoring interventions to the unique needs and goals of each client.
She also brings over a decade of experience as a sexual and mental health educator, youth mentor, and community advocate. She has worked with newcomer and Indigenous youth, including in Northern Canada, supported emerging adults in university residence settings, and volunteered in early learning enrichment programs with toddlers with diverse needs, including autism and selective mutism. Across these roles, Sara has been dedicated to creating safe, supportive, and inclusive spaces that empower individuals to navigate challenges and build resilience.
At Step Stone Psychology, Sara provides assessment and intervention services, fostering a warm and affirming environment where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered in their care.
