Dr. Joanna Collaton, (she/her)

Psychologist (Supervised Practice)

Dr. Joanna Collaton is a clinical psychologist (supervised practice) who works with children, adolescents, families, and adults. She completed her MA and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Guelph, as well as an MPH from the University of Toronto. Joanna has worked and trained at community mental health centres, hospitals, school boards, and private practices including the Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids, the Maplewoods Centre for Child and Family Therapy, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She has conducted and published research on women’s mental health including the impact of interpersonal and sexual violence.

As part of her practice, she integrates evidence-based therapies such as emotion-focused, attachment-based, and cognitive-behavioural/dialectical behavioural approaches. She works with a broad range of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, emotion regulation issues, disordered eating, school or work stress, perfectionism, and life transitions. Joanna values developing a strong and supportive relationship in the therapy process as a foundation for growth and change. She also completes assessments for clients looking for diagnostic clarity across areas of learning, attention, and mental health. At Step Stone, Joanna sees clients virtually or at the downtown location on Thursdays. In addition to her work at Step Stone, she is a staff psychologist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
