Alex Markwell, M.A. (sher/her)

Doctoral Practicum Student

Alex Markwell is a Doctoral Practicum Student at Step Stone Psychology, where she provides assessment and intervention services for children, adolescents, and emerging adults.

Alex is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Developmental Psychology at York University, where she also earned her master’s degree. Her research explores how children develop within their family system, focusing on the experiences and relationships that shape their development. She applies this knowledge in her work with clients and their families.

Alex has trained in both hospital and private practice settings, gaining broad experience supporting children, youth, and families facing a wide range of concerns. Her assessment experience includes conducting comprehensive assessments with children and adolescents experiencing challenges related to learning, neurodiversity, and mental health (e.g., trauma, mood and anxiety difficulties, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and substance use).

In her therapeutic work, Alex takes a client-centred approach and draws on a range of evidence-based techniques to provide support that is responsive to each individual’s unique needs. She is especially passionate about working collaboratively with parents, valuing their insights and partnering with them to support their child’s well-being. Alex strives to create a warm, respectful, and compassionate space where clients and families feel safe exploring their experiences, building on their strengths, and working towards goals that are meaningful to them.
